FAQ
Drone Photography FAQ: Hiring a Drone Operator in Cairns
Straight answers about CASA rules, airspace, weather, pricing and deliverables. Cannot see your question? Just ask.
Are you licensed to fly drones commercially in Australia?
Yes. MCL Oceania Pty Ltd holds a Remotely Piloted Aircraft Operator’s Certificate (ReOC 7395) from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), and our flights are carried out by licensed remote pilots under our CASA-approved procedures.
How much does drone photography cost in Cairns?
Every job is quoted individually because the price depends on the location, airspace approvals, travel, flight time and the photos, video or maps you need. Send us the details and we will reply with a clear, itemised quote.
How much notice do you need?
For straightforward sites we can often fly within days. Locations in controlled airspace near Cairns Airport, national parks or the marine park can need approvals or permits that add lead time, so the earlier you contact us the better.
Which areas do you cover?
Cairns and all of Far North Queensland, including the Northern Beaches, Port Douglas, the Daintree, the Atherton Tablelands, the Cassowary Coast and outback areas such as Chillagoe. Travel outside Cairns is included in your quote.
What happens if it rains or the wind is too strong?
We only fly when it is safe and the conditions will give you good results. If wind, rain or low cloud rule out the flight, we agree a new date with you. In the wet season we plan around the forecast and keep some flexibility in the schedule.
Can you fly at night or over people?
Flying at night, over crowds or close to people not involved in the shoot is restricted under CASA rules and needs specific approval. Tell us what you have in mind and we will explain what is possible and what alternatives work.
How do I receive my photos and videos?
Edited files are delivered by secure download link, in full resolution for print and in web-optimised sizes for your website and social media. Mapping outputs are supplied in standard GIS and CAD-friendly formats.
Can you work with our photographer, agent or video producer?
Yes. We regularly coordinate with photographers, real estate agents, builders and production teams so the aerial work fits your wider project.
